First year of college soccer experience
First college soccer experience
Recently I have just finished wrapping up my first college soccer season. Overall I would give my first college soccer experience a success. The reason I would give my first season success is that as a team we exceeded expectations yes we might not have made it that far in the national tournament but we played our hearts out that final game because we had given so much this season and really focused during the season and we really wanted to move forward. As a team we were ranked 4th in the nation late in the season and coming into the season we were ranked 20th in the preseason poll so we really played our hearts out. We also made it to the NCAA D3 national tournament and finally clinched the first spot in our CCIW conference.
Now personally how I would rate myself in my first season. As a freshman, it was pretty difficult for me when I first started playing soccer. The reason that I say that is because it took me pretty long for me to adapt to the pace of the game and just fit into the team's scheme. So the team has 50 kids on its roster so I first started on the team's reserve team to get me more reps and get my feet under the pace that college soccer is played at. I didn't adjust super quick but then when the reserves games I really believed in myself and that I could fit in and then after 3 games I was really performing well. On the day of our 4th game, I had a meeting with the head coach to see what I had to do to get better and maybe play with the first team and he said just keep doing what I'm doing and it will come. That game was against our rivals North Park and I scored 2 goals and tied the game 2-2. After that game, I was called up to practice with the first team, and ultimately that led to me traveling with the first team to Minnesota that weekend. After that game, I regularly played with the first team.
When I started to practice with the first team I really started to see how I was improving and how I really started to fit in with the first team. It took a little bit for me to start getting first-team minutes but I knew that if I practiced hard my time would come and I just needed to perform well. Then the Carthage game came and it was close the whole game so I didn't think I would get any minutes but we had a really good second half and we really handed it to them and my time came with 16 minutes left and I got a goal and assist that game. That had to of been one of my proudest moments because I had really been working hard all my life and I dreamt of scoring in college soccer and when it happened it was pure joy for me. After that, I finally started to get more minutes and I was very productive in the limited amount of minutes that I got. I then appeared in my first CCIW conference tournament and all im going to say now is there is more from me to come...
